CNN's Rich Sanchez blasted Fox News this afternoon over an ad the network ran in the Washington Post which said that other networks missed the tea party protest.

Sanchez said that the network did "extensively" cover the event, but didn't "promote the event." And addressing Fox, Sanchez was clear: "You lie."

Earlier, I noted that ABC's Jack Tapper called the ad "demonstrably untrue," and yet the Post defended running it by telling POLITICO that it's Fox's opinion the other networks — which had as many as a dozen staffers and multiple cameras — missed the story even if they were physically present.

Az arab világgal az a baj, hogy sosem voltak sport központúak, Doha is a mostani versenyben elég hamar kiestek. Sporteredményeik a lakosság számához képest elég gyérek (az egyébként Indiára még fokozottan igaz, annál kevésbé valószínű, hogy rövid időn belül nekik adják).
Egyelőre csak olyan tipikus drága szponzorigényű, luxus sportágakban kapnak rendezési jogot, mint a Forma-1, vagy a tenisz.

A pénzkérdésről: BP önmagában nem képes megrendezni, de ha a teljes ország mögéáll, akkor igen, 7 évre elosztva a költségek a költségvetés 3-4%-át jelentik.

Az IOC-nek van egy olyan törekvése, mint az amerikai filmakadémiának. Előbb-utóbb, akár erőltetve is, de mindenkit jutalmazni akar, aki még nem volt és elég kitartó (Kína, Rio, Athén a 100 éves évforduló helyett, Barcelona). It has some other unrealistic elements, like the health credit card (my insurance plan tried it; the actual implementation caused something like a mini-riot.)

Hivatalban lévő amerikai elnökök közül csak Wilson és T. Roosevelt kapta, de mindketten az elnökségük második felében. Aktív alelnökként kapta Charles Dawes 1925-ben, mindjárt az első hivatali évében, de egy olyan tevékenységéért amit évek óta végzett. Kissinger aktív külügyminiszterként kapta, mindjárt az első évében, de előtte nemzetbiztonsági tanácsadó volt. , és a Vietnam-i fegyverszünetért tárgyalt. Nem aktav amerikai elnökként Carter, alelnökként Al Gore kapott Béke Nobel Díjat, de azért, amit posztjuk betöltése után csináltak. Más nagyhatalmaknál csak Gorbacsov kapta meg a díjat, de ő is csak elnöksége végén.

A döntés mindenképpen példa nélküli, és erősen spekulatív, szerintem hiba volt meghozni.

A controversial e-mail message buried by the Bush administration because of its conclusions on global warming surfaced Tuesday, nearly two years after it was first sent to the White House and never opened.

The e-mail and the 28-page document attached to it, released Tuesday by the Environmental Protection Agency, show that back in December of 2007 the agency concluded that six gases linked to global warming pose dangers to public welfare, and wanted to take steps to regulate their release from automobiles and the burning of gasoline.

The document specifically cites global warming's effects on air quality, agriculture, forestry, water resources and coastal areas as endangering public welfare.

That finding was rejected by the Bush White House, which strongly opposed using the Clean Air Act to address climate change and stalled on producing a so-called "endangerment finding" that had been ordered by the Supreme Court in 2007.

As a result, the Dec. 5 e-mail sent by the agency to Susan Dudley, who headed the regulatory division at the Office of Management and Budget was never opened, according to Jason Burnett, the former EPA official that wrote it.

The Bush administration, and then EPA administrator Stephen Johnson, also refused to release the document, which is labeled "deliberative, do not distribute" to Democratic lawmakers. The White House instead allowed three senators to review it last summer, when excerpts were released.

The Obama administration in April made a similar determination, but also concluded that greenhouse gases endanger public health. The EPA is currently drafting the first greenhouse gas standards for automobiles, and recently signaled it would attempt to reduce climate-altering pollution from refineries, factories and other large industrial sources.

In response, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and Republican lawmakers have criticized the EPA's reasoning and called for a more thorough vetting of the science. An internal review by a dozen federal agencies released in May also raised questions about the EPA's conclusion, saying the agency could have been more balanced and raising questions about the difficulty in linking global warming to health effects.

Adora Andy, a spokeswoman for EPA administrator Lisa Jackson, said Tuesday that the science in 2007 was as clear as it is today.

"The conclusions reached then by the EPA scientists should have been made public and should have been considered," she said.

John McCain's campaign manager drew some negative attention (less, perhaps, than deserved) for work he and other aides had done for the essentially pro-Russian, anti-American side in Ukraine, a consulting client.

Newsweek reports today on its new investigative blog that AKPD media, along with an Obama pollster, have gone to work for Julia Tymoshenko, another leading Ukrainian political figure, and suggest the possibilities of a conflict of interest, or that the Ukrainians at least think they're buying influence.

There's a distinction worth making here: Tymoshenko -- who, like many people in the region's politics, acquired vast wealth and regular corruption allegations -- represents a nationalistic, pro-American faction in the country's divided politics.

So while Davis was working for the faction that McCain was openly hostile to, Obama's aides are working with the side whose interests, in a vague sort of way, align with Americans. Still a good story, but a different one.

Right now, the poll finds that when respondents are asked whether they will vote for a Dem or a GOPer in the 2010 elections, 51% pick the Dem and 39% pick the Republican.

Well, Secretary Clinton might not think small unmanned drones firing missiles into villages is terrorism, but it is pretty damned clear a lot of people in Pakistan would disagree with that assessment.

And I’m pretty damned sure if predator drones were flying over American cities firing missiles into populated areas and killing a bunch of innocents, Secretary Clinton and everyone else in the country would pretty quickly label it terrorism. Sokkal fontosabb lesz a jövő évi Képviselőházi választás, ez nagyjából akkorra esik majd, amikor Obama elfogadottsága vagy 45% alatt lesz, vagy már megjárta azt és nem sokkal van felette.
